Chapter 23

Narcotics Officer Crooked Chris and his partner Cowboy walked up and down Main Street trying to find anyone who would give them information on the Martinez homicide. Crooked Chris walked up to a Puerto Rican lady who was standing at the bus stop.

“Hi, ma’am, I’m sorry to bother you but me and my partner here were wondering if you live in this neighborhood.”

“Yes, I do,” the lady replied.

“So, you know Danny Martinez?”

“Yeah, I know him.”

“Do you know who would want to kill him?”

“That, I don’t know. Danny was a stick-up kid. He robbed so many people. It’s no telling who might have done it.”

“Thank you for your time, ma’am.”

“No problem.”

“What did I tell you, partner? I knew our victim was a criminal. My assumption was right.”

“True indeed, partner, true indeed. Now all we have to do is find out who was he trying to rob when he got shot.”

“Let’s get to work.”
